The Proposal
We are slightly obsessed with our dog, Kanye Westie, so it only made sense that our engagement involved our four-legged child. On August 6, 2016, we were practicing obedience commands with Kanye. We went into different rooms to practice calling his name and asking him to perform various commands. This went on for a few minutes until I called Kanye out of the bedroom and noticed that he was wearing something new… a bandana that read, “I do too.” Ben followed a moment later with a ring. I said “Yes” and we were soon joined by our parents and friends.
In Preparation
Ben and I shared a vision for an elegant wedding with touches of fun and playfulness, and this theme stayed with us throughout the wedding planning process. Although Ben and I live in Atlanta, I was born and raised in Nashville so there was never any doubt that was where we wanted to get married. As many brides know, it is not easy to plan a wedding from a different state. We did as much planning via phone and emails as possible and would visit Nashville for long weekends filled with what felt like a marathon of vendor visits. We were fortunate to have hired an amazing wedding planner, Sara with Fete Nashville, to help with the details, as well as my mom who is great at planning events! Between the two of them, we felt confident that the details and last minute meetings would be taken care of.
The Big Day
Our wedding was the most fun day of our lives. We opted to do a first look before the wedding and are so happy with our decision. It enabled us to take so many special photos together and with our bridal party (and a few with Kanye Westie) at various places around Nashville, which are many of our favorite portraits from the day. Our wedding ceremony was at The Temple in Nashville, where I grew up attending church. I will never forget the feeling of walking down the aisle with my parents and seeing Ben standing beneath the beautiful wedding chuppah. Following the ceremony, we went to The Omni Nashville for cocktail hour and the reception. Our guests danced all night under the floral chandeliers thanks to our awesome band. Our goal was for our guests to have fun – and we definitely succeeded.
The Retreat
Immediately following the wedding, Ben and I went away for a few days to The Ritz-Carlton, Reynolds Plantation. It was relaxing and beautiful and the perfect getaway following the chaos of the wedding. We are going on a delayed honeymoon to Thailand and China where we will be traveling to Hong Kong, Bangkok, Chaing Mai, and Ko Sumai.
