The secret pathways and lovingly tended beds cultivated by the master gardener served as the enchanting setting for this romantic garden shoot. The peonies were arranged into various elegant and artistic designs to showcase a new line of peony blooms that will be offered to brides and florists in 2020.

Inspired by the natural gardens and the full, luxurious beauty of the Alaskan peonies, the florist created floral pieces for two different bridal looks that invoked the romance of a Jane Austen novel and highlighted the natural nuances of the peonies. With over 15 different types of peonies used in the designs, the florals could have easily overtaken the overall aesthetic. Although the flowers draw your eye in, their elegance and distinctive arrangement do not overpower the bride — an important distinction to consider when working with your florist. Every floral creation is the sum of its details. The trick is knowing how to choose each stylistic element in a way that creates a balance and an overall appealing aesthetic.

The natural beauty of the bride or groom should be highlighted through design choices rather than overrun by loud or elaborate touches. Here, in order to create a balance between the model and the larger floral pieces, the model was dressed in soft colors, complementary textures, and simple, feminine silhouettes. The hairstylist accentuated her natural curls and the makeup was used to merely highlight her already striking features. The entire look was carefully and artistically translated through the photographer’s lens onto the film.

The return to film photography rather than the use of digital photography is appropriate for brides and artists seeking to create images with a raw quality of sophistication and grace. The photographer’s emphasis on distinct, yet natural colors, in addition to loose posing that allows the subject to move more freely throughout the frame, invokes a royal and colorful look for the sophisticated, bold bride. In order to maintain the level of luxury and natural elegance displayed by the peonies and through the styling, it was crucial to work with a photographer like Abigail who is capable of expressing the sophistication of the shoot onto film.

A skilled team of creatives will transform a wedding from common to exceptional because they know how to create and capture details that naturally highlight the couple and subtly elevate the event. For those who are looking to display a new level of luxury and elegance, particularly through their wedding flowers, these peonies will be available in limited quantities through the Alaska Peony Cooperative in the 2020 growing season to brides and florists across the U.S.
